Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions section. So far, we’ve got the following questions:
- “Who is welcome at your events?”
- “I’d like to come to one of your events but I’m feeling a bit nervous and shy. Can you help me?”
- “Do you have a mailing list?”
- “I’m finding it hard to attend your events because of an accessibility issue. Can you help?”
- “How can I learn more about butch/femme/trans identities?”
- “I’m from out of town but I’m planning to be in Melbourne soon. What events will you have on?”
- “Can I give you some feedback about your group/events?”
“Who is welcome at your events?”
We welcome anyone with a connection to butch/femme/trans identities. How you interpret ‘butch’, ‘femme’ and/or ‘trans’ is up to you. Perhaps you have an affinity with labels like ‘queer’, ‘femme’, ‘gay’, ‘butch’, ‘lesbian’, ‘genderqueer’, ‘transwoman’, ‘bisexual’, ‘transman’, ‘intersex’, ‘transsexual’, ‘cross-dresser’, ‘female’, ‘male’… or none of these.
Regardless of your gender or sexuality or who you may or not be partnered to, we won’t be checking your identity at the door – so please feel free to come to our events and join in the fun!

“I’d like to come to one of your events but I’m feeling a bit nervous and shy. Can you help me?”
At least one person from our organising group is present at all of our events. You’re welcome to contact us before an event to let us know that you’re coming. That way, you’ll have at least one person to meet with.
We may also be able to work out something else if necessary (e.g. if it’s do-able, one or more people from our group may be able to meet with you for, say, half an hour or so before one of our events begins).
We know that it can be intimidating to show up to an event where you don’t know anyone, so we do encourage you to contact us if necessary.

Yes – we have an emailing list that we use to keep people informed of our forthcoming events. If you’d like us to add you to this list, please contact us.

“I’m finding it hard to attend your events because of an accessibility issue. Can you help?”
We try to make our events as accessible as possible. If you’re having a problem attending our events due to an accessibility issue (e.g. you have strict dietary requirements, you have a strong preference for gender neutral bathrooms), please contact us and we’ll try our best to help you.

“How can I learn more about butch/femme/trans identities?”
We’ve created a Resources section for this very purpose! We think it provides a pretty comprehensive starting point.

“I’m from out of town but I’m planning to be in Melbourne soon. What events will you have on?”
We list details for our forthcoming events on this website, including reminders for our regular monthly drinks event (this is held on the second Thursday of the month). We also have an emailing list to inform people about our forthcoming events. If you’d like to be added to this emailing list, please contact us.
If you don’t wish to be added to our emailing list and your stay in Melbourne is still at least a few months away, please feel free to contact us and we can give you an idea of what’s coming up, even if the details aren’t completely confirmed. If the dates suit, we might even be able to organise something to coincide with your visit!

“Can I give you some feedback about your group/events?”
We’d love to hear from you. We’re also open to your suggestions about potential events that we could run. To give us feedback (or to ask a question that’s not covered here), please contact us.
