It gives the organising group great pleasure in putting on events from the ButchFemmeTrans community and friends.  We rack our brains to come up with ideas for future events - and now we need your help!

What sort of events would you like to see over the next 12 months?  How do you think we can improve things? If you are on the mailing list, but haven’t attended anything yet, can you tell us why? All suggestions welcome!  Feel free to either post here, private message us, or email your thoughts to contact@butchfemmetrans.com

Look forward to hearing from you!

In memory of Zoe Belle

March 19th, 2008

It has been a couple of months since our event A Sunset Soiree. The event was a great success and we’d like to thank everyone for turning up.

The success of the event – in fact, the very decision to stage the event – was in large part due to the work of a very special person named Zoe Belle. Sadly, Zoe passed away suddenly on the 14th of January before she could attend the soiree or any of the other Midsumma Festival events that she played such a vital role on.

After Zoe passed away, we sent out a notice to members of our e-mailing list. We have also decided to publish this notice on our website as an ongoing tribute to Zoe.

In Memory of Zoe Belle: A Notice from Friday 18 January 2008

Dear ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne mailing members

We are writing to inform you of some very sad news. Zoe Belle, a regular attendee of our events, passed away suddenly on Monday night.

As well as attending almost all of our events, Zoe was a great supporter of ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne in other respects. In fact, it is due to her initiative that ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne is staging its biggest event yet – the forthcoming Sunset Soiree cocktail party for Midsumma. As a Midsumma committee member, it was Zoe who approached our group to ask if we would be interested in staging an event for the festival.

More recently, Zoe had already committed to attend the Soiree. On Sunday the 27th of January, we will miss her presence very much and we will also raise a glass to toast in her honour.

While the news of Zoe’s passing is very sad indeed, one of our final memories of Zoe is something that makes us smile. In December, Zoe attended the ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne End of Year Picnic. A highlight of the picnic was the appearance of a sleazy butch Santa. A range of picnickers were taking turns to sit on Santa’s lap. After some friendly cajoling to warm Santa’s lap, Zoe decided to be a good sport and to have a turn. She pulled some funny faces as she sat on Santa’s lap and we all applauded her.

May you rest in peace, Zoe.

Love

ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne

A Sunset Soiree (27 Jan 2008)

December 21st, 2007

Our full website is still under construction but we just had to tell you about our forthcoming event for the Midsumma Festival (Melbourne’s queer arts and cultural festival). This is the biggest event we have staged so far and it’s something we know you’ll love:

Yana AlanaWe’re very excited about this event. We decided it was time to put on a really glamorous event and this is the result.

Glamour aside, we’ve gone all out to put on the best possible event for you. Yana Alana and Tha Parana Party are brilliant performers who recently won the 2007 Melbourne Fringe Festival Cabaret Award (that’s Yana in the photo on the right). They are sure to put on a great show and keep the event swinging. Our caterer is food artiste and chef Fofi Christou. Fofi’s culinary creations have featured at events such as Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and Slow Food Festival, and in publications such as Epicure. On top of all of that, with generous support from Gasworks, we have kept the price of this event as low as possible to ensure that lots of people are able to attend. You even get your first drink for free!

If you’ve got any queries, please feel free to contact us. And if you want us to keep you posted about our forthcoming events, please ask us to sign you up to our e-mailing list.

Picnics, drinks and more

December 17th, 2007

Thanks to everyone who came along to our End of Year Picnic. We had a lot of fun and must give a special thanks to our sleazy butch Santa and naughty femme elf who really helped us to ‘get into the Christmas spirit’. (We will get around to posting some photos eventually…)

Our last Drinks At Six event for 2007 was also recently held and it was great to kick back and relax in such fine company, which included both familiar faces as well as some new people. We’ll be running our monthly drinks events again next year. These drinks are always on the 2nd Thursday of the month so the next one is on 10 January. However, we’re looking for a new venue that has more substantial food offerings so stay tuned for the details of the new location.

At any rate, what’s even more exciting than all of that is our cocktail party event for the Midsumma Festival. Details coming very soon!

Facebook and MySpace

December 15th, 2007

Being the networkers and socialites that we are, we’re on both Facebook and MySpace. Our Facebook profile is here and our MySpace profile is here.

Please feel free to look us up and ‘friend’ us and give us virtual air kisses…

Shout-out to Butch/Femme/Trans Sydney

December 13th, 2007

We recently got to hear that a group called Butch/Femme/Trans Sydney has started organising events for people in Sydney with a connection to butch/femme/trans identities. They were in part inspired by the success of the ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne events so we’re pretty chuffed about that. Anyway, Butch/Femme/Trans Sydney’s first event – a drinks night – attracted around 40 people. What a great result!

So here’s a shout-out to Miki and the rest of the crew from Butch/Femme/Trans Sydney. We hope that some interstate networking can occur in the future!

New website coming soon but in the interim…

October 28th, 2007

At present, we’re busy creating the full website. But in the interim, check out these great events we have coming up! (Note: All of our events are in wheelchair-accessible venues.)
