In memory of Zoe Belle

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

It has been a couple of months since our event A Sunset Soiree. The event was a great success and we’d like to thank everyone for turning up.

The success of the event – in fact, the very decision to stage the event – was in large part due to the work of a very special person named Zoe Belle. Sadly, Zoe passed away suddenly on the 14th of January before she could attend the soiree or any of the other Midsumma Festival events that she played such a vital role on.

After Zoe passed away, we sent out a notice to members of our e-mailing list. We have also decided to publish this notice on our website as an ongoing tribute to Zoe.

In Memory of Zoe Belle: A Notice from Friday 18 January 2008

Dear ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne mailing members

We are writing to inform you of some very sad news. Zoe Belle, a regular attendee of our events, passed away suddenly on Monday night.

As well as attending almost all of our events, Zoe was a great supporter of ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne in other respects. In fact, it is due to her initiative that ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne is staging its biggest event yet – the forthcoming Sunset Soiree cocktail party for Midsumma. As a Midsumma committee member, it was Zoe who approached our group to ask if we would be interested in staging an event for the festival.

More recently, Zoe had already committed to attend the Soiree. On Sunday the 27th of January, we will miss her presence very much and we will also raise a glass to toast in her honour.

While the news of Zoe’s passing is very sad indeed, one of our final memories of Zoe is something that makes us smile. In December, Zoe attended the ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne End of Year Picnic. A highlight of the picnic was the appearance of a sleazy butch Santa. A range of picnickers were taking turns to sit on Santa’s lap. After some friendly cajoling to warm Santa’s lap, Zoe decided to be a good sport and to have a turn. She pulled some funny faces as she sat on Santa’s lap and we all applauded her.

May you rest in peace, Zoe.

Love

ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne

Picnics, drinks and more

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Thanks to everyone who came along to our End of Year Picnic. We had a lot of fun and must give a special thanks to our sleazy butch Santa and naughty femme elf who really helped us to ‘get into the Christmas spirit’. (We will get around to posting some photos eventually…)

Our last Drinks At Six event for 2007 was also recently held and it was great to kick back and relax in such fine company, which included both familiar faces as well as some new people. We’ll be running our monthly drinks events again next year. These drinks are always on the 2nd Thursday of the month so the next one is on 10 January. However, we’re looking for a new venue that has more substantial food offerings so stay tuned for the details of the new location.

At any rate, what’s even more exciting than all of that is our cocktail party event for the Midsumma Festival. Details coming very soon!

New website coming soon but in the interim…

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Hi there. Welcome to the ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne website.

At present, we’re busy creating the full website. But in the interim, check out these great events we have coming up! (Note: All of our events are in wheelchair-accessible venues.)

Drinks At Six

Our events have been so successful that we’ve organised a regular monthly drinks event at the cocktail lounge Polly. So come along on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Forthcoming dates and details are as follows:

6.00pm-8.30pm (8.30 is the official finish time but feel free to stay longer if you wish)

And then there’s the:

End of Year Picnic

Fitzroy Gardens (view the Fitzroy Gardens website)
Albert and Wellington Sts

BYO everything (but we’ll bring the sleazy butch Santa…)

Note: The parking attendants are on the ball, so if you’re coming by car, please remember to bring coins for the meter! If the weather is fine, don’t forget the sunscreen… but if it’s raining, please meet us in the cafe at the gardens.

All enquiries to Eleanor on 0439 416 394

And then… there’s our event for the Midsumma Festival in January next year:

A Sunset Soiree

“Join ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne for an evening of jazz, cocktails, food and finery…”

ButchFemmeTrans Melbourne invites you to a Midsumma night’s cocktail party. Featuring live jazz by Yana Alana and Tha Parana Party (2007 Melbourne Fringe Festival Cabaret Award winners), gourmet fare, sumptuous cocktails – and you, in all your finery. Join us for an evening of sparkling drinks and even-more-sparkling conversation.

Following on from our fabulous dinners and other social events over the last 18 months, we have turned up the glamour and turned on the mood lighting for this special event. Dress glamorously, mingle freely, and revel in your gorgeousness.

We welcome anyone with a connection to butch/femme/trans identities. Over-dressing, dancing, flirtation and long chats over cocktails are absolutely encouraged.
